The California Institute For Immunology & Immunotherapy
The mission of The California Institute For Immunology & Immunotherapy (CIII) at the UCLA Research Park is to harness the power of the human immune system and advanced computing technologies to create and translate scientific discoveries into next generation vaccines and therapies for prevention, control and cure of chronic diseases, enabling longer and healthier lives.
A World Without Chronic Disease
The CIII will be an “invention factory” that focuses on real-world applications through scientific entrepreneurship, bridging the often siloed worlds of biological and computer sciences, academia, biotechnology, and patient care.
Technology is changing at a breathtaking pace, making the impossible now possible. Perhaps no greater impact can be achieved for transforming the future of human health, than by using AI to decode how our immune system fights disease.
From chronic infectious and non-communicable diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, AIDS and others, the human immune system is the key to our health and longevity. Our immune system varies across individuals and over time, due to a range of factors including genetics, age and environmental factors such as nutrition, stress and climate change, and is the basis for some of our greatest public health successes, including vaccines and emerging immunotherapies.
The world’s population is rapidly aging, and this global aging will create widespread public health challenges, dramatically increasing the burden of chronic non-communicable diseases, and our vulnerability to infectious diseases. However, during the past decade, the convergence of extraordinary technological advances across biomedicine, AI and computer sciences now provide an unprecedented opportunity to advance our understanding of human immunity, and with it revolutionize the future of global health.
Located in Los Angeles in a state of the art 500,000 square foot facility at UCLA’s Research Park, which uniquely brings together world class research scientists across human immunology, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and other disciplines. The CIII brings together a translational research infrastructure and industry partnerships to rapidly advance scientific discoveries to develop next generation vaccines and immunotherapies for major global diseases.
